Those seeking to lose weight should have a diet heavy in fruit and low in calories.

A person needs to eat fewer calories to maintain a given weight after losing weight because weight loss reduces maintenance needs.

It takes 12 kilogram calories per pound to maintain body weight. When 10 pounds are lost, 120 fewer calories are needed.
