The man who invented scissors built on an idea thousands of years old.
Scissors made of bronze, specially designed for cutting fabric and other materials, were developed by 1500 B.C.E. Early spring-type scissors appeared in 500 B.C.E.
Pivoted scissors similar to those of today were used in ancient Rome in 100 C.E., but they were not used domestically in Europe until the 16th century. The modern cast-steel scissors were developed in England by Robert Hinchcliffe in 1761.
