As a computer term, "bug" has an ironic and obvious origin.

Exactly where the term "bug" originated is uncertain. The slang term bug is used to describe problems and errors occurring in computer programs. The term may have originated during the early 1940s at Harvard University when a computer malfunctioned. A dead moth found in the system was thought to be the cause of the systems failure. This famous carcass, taped to a page from the trouble log notebook, is preserved at the Virginia Naval Museum.
