The Brown Mountains of North Carolina used to contain some mysteries.

The origin of the Brown Mountain Lights of North Carolina remained unexplained for a period of some thirty years.

In 1922, the United States Geological Survey studied the mystery and found that the area has extraordinary atmospheric conditions. Automobile, locomotive and fixed lights from miles away are reflected in the atmosphere.
