Silicon chip sizes vary depending on the number of components.

The sizes of silicon chips are:

SSI - small scale integration

MSI - medium scale integration

LSI - large scale integration

VLSI - very large scale integration

ULSI - ultra large scale integration

GSI - gigascale integration

The number of components packed into a single chip is very loosely defined. ULSI units can pack millions of components on a chip. GSI, a long-term target for the industry, will potentially hold billions of components on a chip.
