The speed of a land snail was recorded in 1970 as 0.00758 miles (40 feet or 12.2 meters) per hour.

The fastest moving species of land snail is probably the common garden snail (Helix aspersa), which moves at 0.03 miles (158.5 feet or 48.3 meters) per hour.
