It's important to protect fruit trees from being eaten by field mice.

Valuable trees, especially newly planted fruit trees, can be protected from being eaten by field mice by wrappings or guards of wire, wood veneer or plastic.

Other controls, such as pieces of lava rocks soaked in garlic, are effective as repellents, and garlic sprays will repel most rodents.
